Several months after the FOSE, Kelly had a little too much wine one night and after they had sex, she told her "wife", Cindy, that she fell in love with her the first time she babysat for their kids. Cindy knew then that the girl who used to babysit for them had lied about being the victim. The slip of her tongue connected other things that didn't make sense. Kelly knew far more about her than she should have as if she had read her diary. She must have found it on nights when she was babysitting. Cindy didn't hide it. Cindy sought out Adrian. She found out he was working at a nice restaurant as a waitress. Kelly's parents had kicked him out after the FOSE and he was living alone. She caught up to him as he left work one evening. She was impressed with how lovely he, make that she, looked. She was wearing a black knee-length skirt, a white button-up silk blouse with several buttons open, and black pumps. Her makeup was expertly applied. She looked like a polished young woman. She wore a name tag that read "Adrian", it was a gender-neutral name. "Adrian, I believe you now. I'm sorry, I realize that Kelly was the cause of the swap. We can't change you back but I can kick her out and you can come home. We can't be lovers, I just can't do that but I don't want you living on your own any longer, it isn't safe for a girl of your age." Adrian sighed deeply and felt his eyes begin to water. "Don't cry, you'll ruin your makeup," his wife said and she offered him a tissue. Adrian dabbed at her eyes carefully and sniffed a couple of times. She looked at her wife and took a deep breath. "Thank you for letting me know that you believe me, Cindy. I really don't blame you for believing Kelly. I'm not living alone, I just moved in with my boyfriend, Jeff. He knows who I am and used to be. He's very open-minded and he loves me, as I love him. When I turn 18, on Kelly's next birthday, I can get my business degree updated with my current gender and age. I'll have to start over, probably a year as an intern while I work nights here at the restaurant, but it'll be worth it. I would like to see the kids though. I think you need to get Kelly out of the house as soon as possible. I wouldn't trust her with the kids. Who's watching them now?" "They are with my mother. I explained this all to her when I dropped them off. I told Kelly to get out, she can come back tomorrow when I have a police officer there to get your clothes. They won't do anyone else any good. I'll call your old boss, maybe you can get your old job back there?" "Maybe but look, I need to get going. Jeff wants to take me out to dinner; he seems very excited about this evening. I think he's going to pop the question." "What? How long have you two been dating?" Cindy asked. "Tonight is our 3-month anniversary. He's very special Cindy. He makes me feel safe and loved. Just like I used to feel around you. By the way Cindy, I still love you just not that way anymore." "I'm a bit shocked. Are you sure this isn't just physical? Oh, Adrian, I wish this had never happened, I wish I had believed you." "Watch your makeup, honey," Adrian said. As his wife began crying. "Cindy, I'm just 17 years old. I haven't had sex with Jeff. I have physical needs, yes. But I handle that sort of thing alone and in private. If Jeff proposes, I'll say yes then I'll wait for our wedding night." "Please call me, keep me up to date with you and Jeff. I'd like to meet him. When do you have a night off to come to visit the kids?" "Mondays are my day off." "Adrian, if he does propose, would you let me be your maid of honor? Of if you have someone else in mind for that, I could be the um.. sister of the bride. I'm not old enough to be the mother of the bride." "Of course, let me get engaged first then we'll talk about my wedding." The two women hugged and cried, both ruining their makeup but not really caring. It was bittersweet for Cindy but a wonderful night for Adrian. She got her family back for the most part and later that night, she said yes after Jeff asked her to marry him.
